Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, who took the office only two weeks ago. Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that Hamdalla will remain head of a caretaker government until a replacement is found. Hamdallah’s resignation was attributed to a "conflict over authority" involving Muhammad Mustafa, deputy prime minister for economic affairs and is also close to the president. Mohammed Mustafa and former foreign minister Ziad Abu Amr are likely frontrunners to replace Hamdallah.
