Protesters led by Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and populist cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) staged parades on Tuesday night along the “Red Zone”, which contains state buildings and foreign embassies and is tightly secured.

Protesters blockaded the main entrance of the parliament building and announced that none of the ministers or lawmakers will be allowed to leave the building until Prime Minister Nawar Sharif resigns. The protestors’ actions provoked fears of possible violence but Pakistani riot police and other security forces have not yet intervened.
