The report also makes recommendations for Vietnam to continue moving towards a more integrated, transparent, sustainable and inclusive economy.

Alvaro Pereira, Chief Economist of OECD said at an event in Hanoi on Friday to launch the report: “You know that the government has the objective of becoming a high income country by 2045. But in order to do this you need one thing crucial: continue to reform, continue to have reform attitude, continue to invest in education, continue to strengthen the investment in infrastructure, and obviously continue to be an open country, so that you are able to export more to other parts of the world. This is particularly important.”

“Right now, Vietnam has a very young population, it is enjoying population dividend. But like any single country in the world, Vietnam will be aging and as a consequence, some structures will have to be changed. So improving productivity is essential,” according to Pereira.

In a video message delivered at the event, OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann applauded Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development and affirmed the OECD’s continued support for Vietnam in pursuing its high-growth objectives.
