(VOVWORLD) - North Korea launched at least one unidentified ballistic missile toward its eastern coast on Wednesday, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, who did not immediately release details about the type of missile or its flight range.

This is North Korea’s first missile test since South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s administration took office in June. Pyongyang previously test-fired short-range ballistic missiles on May 8 and cruise missiles on May 22, both directed toward the East Sea.

The latest launch comes just days ahead of the APEC summit which South Korea will host from October 31 to November 1. The event is expected to draw world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
