NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said on Twitter on Monday that the change was made after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that he would not be attending the meeting which coincides with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the US next Thursday and Friday. The State Department has confirmed that Tillerson will attend the rescheduled NATO talks if they can be held this Friday.
Diplomats have worked frantically in recent days to make the new date, with Britain revealing Monday that Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson will delay a visit to Moscow to accommodate Tillerson.
