(VOVworld) – National Assembly Vice-chairman Uong Chu Luu received the President of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council Surakiart Sathirathai in Hanoi on Wednesday. He said that Vietnam supported the peaceful settlement of issues concerning religion, ethnicity and border disputes.

He said that the Vietnam National Assembly supported the Council’s cooperation with Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry to settle regional and global issues through peaceful diplomatic measures and in accordance with international law. Luu said that with its experience and prestige, the Council could be an official channel to support Southeast Asian nations in building peace and reconciling regional disputes towards formulating a strong politically-secure ASEAN Community. He also expressed his hope that the Council and President Surakiart Sathirathai would help the world to understand more about Vietnam, its land and people.
