(VOVworld) – The National Assembly of Vietnam will do its best to solidify cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) and between the NA and the European Parliament (EP), said Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

At a Wednesday reception in Hanoi for members of the EP Delegation for relations with Southeast Asia and ASEAN countries (DASE), Hung said Vietnam is willing to act as a bridge enhancing EU and EP cooperation with ASEAN nations. He thanked the EP for supporting the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation and the EU-Vietnam free trade agreement, which will take bilateral ties to a new stage of development.

Werner Langen, Chairman of the EP Delegation for relations with Southeast Asia and ASEAN countries, briefed Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on the outcomes of the delegation’s talks with the NA’s Committee for External Relations and voiced optimism about Vietnam-EU cooperation.

Langen said the EU hails Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements and its successful completion of the UN Millennium Development Goals, adding that the EP considers Vietnam a good friend in ASEAN.
