NA Chairman leaves for 130th IPU Assembly

(VOVworld) - A Vietnamese delegation led by National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung left Hanoi for Switzerland on Sunday to attend the 130th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-130).

(VOVworld) - A Vietnamese delegation led by National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung left Hanoi for Switzerland on Sunday to attend the 130th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-130). The highest level NA delegation’s first participation in an IPU Assembly meeting marks a significant milestone in promoting Vietnam’s images and legislature in international arena, and is part of activities in preparation for Vietnam to host the 132nd IPU next year.
Within the 5 day event, 700 representatives from 141 IPU member countries will focus their discussions on a wide range of topics. High on the agenda include measures to promote efforts for nuclear disarmament to build a safer world. Global security is another big issue including risks for global development, protection for children; especially those suffer from wars and conflicts. Participants will also comment on the role of inter-parliament union in securing peace in Syria by political solutions and in restoring peace in the Republic of Central Africa, as well as electing the union’s new Secretary to precede Secretary General Anders Johnson after his 16 years in office.
NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung will pay official visits to Switzerland and Italy to boost bilateral ties with those countries, especially in parliamentary cooperation.
