In April, the Ministry of Information and Communications gave the licenses to Viettel Group and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) to establish a network and provide terrestrial mobile information services using 5G technology this year.
Nguyen Phong Nha, Deputy Director of the Department of Telecommunications, of the Ministry of Information and Communications, said: “As the 5G technology service was just licensed, the Ministry of Information and Communications has directed the Department of Telecommunications to work with businesses to develop and implement monthly plans and protect consumers’ rights. Businesses have informed consumers and offered packages and promotional programs to support users and ensure their rights.”
The Ministry of Information and Communications said that in September when the license granted for 2G technology expires, telecommunications businesses will no longer be granted new licenses to develop this technology. From September 2026, the 2G mobile system will be stopped and only the 4G service continues.
