An Giang has handed over more than 3,100 houses to revolutionary contributors and poor and near-poor households at a total cost of 7.9 million USD from the state budget and social mobilization.

Ben Tre province has inaugurated more than 4,000 houses for policy beneficiaries and households with housing difficulties at a total cost of 8.2 million USD.

Meanwhile, in Soc Trang province (now merged into Can Tho city), the construction and repair of more than 8,910 houses have been completed and handed over to those in need. The total cost is about 17.7 million USD, while organizations and people contributed nearly 43,000 working days.

Son So Phi, Secretary of the Youth Union of Ward 2, Vinh Chau town, said: “When the Government, the province and the locality launched the movement to eliminate temporary houses, I gathered local union members and youths into a team of over 10 people to help people build houses. We helped transport construction materials and dig soil to make the foundations… We hope that locals will soon have a decent house to live in.”

Vietnam aims to eradicate these substandard homes nationwide by 2025 so as to improve people’s living conditions, strengthen social security, and lay a foundation for sustainable development.
