(VOVWORLD) - Phu My 3 Thermal Power Plant will receive 60,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) next Monday, which will generate about 480 million kWh for the national power system, said Deputy Director of the National Load Dispatch Center Nguyen Quoc Trung at a seminar in Hanoi on Monday.

According to the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN), securing an LNG supply for power generation is crucial, and LNG will be the primary gas source for gas turbine power plants in the future.

Mr. Trung said, "This year, EVN instructed the National Load Dispatch Center to start using LNG, a new energy source. EVN has contracted with gas suppliers to commence LNG operations at the plant in the southeast region on April 15."

This marks the first instance of using LNG for electricity generation, providing Vietnam with an additional and highly efficient electricity source, Trung added.
