Leaders offer assistance for Japan earthquake response

(VOVWORLD) - Leaders in Asia, North America, and Europe offered support to Japan following the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck the  country’s coast on Monday.

On X (formerly known as Twitter) Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that in the face of shared climate challenges within the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is united with Japan and ready to provide support.

In a message to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Tuesday, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol expressed his condolences to the earthquake victims and expressed his intention to assist Japan's recovery.

US President Joe Biden said Monday that the US stands ready to provide any necessary assistance.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Britain stands ready to support Japan and is monitoring developments closely.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed solidarity with Japan and offered assistance.
