The People's Procuracy will be transformed from the current four-level model (supreme, high-level, provincial, and district) to three levels (supreme, provincial and regional), according to the draft law. The revision also includes terminating district-level People's Procuracy and establishing the regional People's Procuracy.
Nguyen Tam Hung, a National Assembly deputy of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, said, “The draft law defines the organization system of the People's Procuracy as consisting of three levels, specifically the Supreme People's Procuracy, the Provincial People's Procuracy and the Regional People's Procuracy."
"I agree with this streamlined orientation, because it matches the policy of abolishing the district level government. I suggest that the drafting committee evaluate more specifically the compatibility of the draft law with international treaties to which Vietnam is a member, especially commitments related to human rights in litigation activities."
The Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Organization of the People's Procuracy is due for approval at the ongoing 9th session of the 15th National Assembly.
