Deputies agreed that intellectual property is a resource for development and an effective tool of competition for businesses and the economy.
Hoang Thanh Tung, Chairman of the NA’s Committee on Laws, said, “The draft law relates to many international treaties to which Vietnam is a signatory, to copyright and the protection of industrial property and plant varieties, and to a number of new-generation free trade agreements like CPTPP and EVFTA that Vietnam has recently joined, so it’s very difficult to make the law fit all practical situations while making the most of the opportunities created by the agreements.”

According to Tung, “the draft law aims to institutionalize the 13th National Party Congress resolution which sets out the task of continuing to improve the legal system, especially the law on intellectual property, to boost innovation and bring Vietnam’s laws into line with international practices.”
The draft law focus on intellectual property rights to products created by scientific and technological projects funded by the state budget, industrial property rights, and rights to plant varieties.
