The service sector remains the largest employer, accounting for nearly 41% of the workforce—or around 21.2 million people. In the second quarter, urban employment reached over 20 million, while rural areas had more than 31 million workers—both figures reflecting year-on-year growth. Employment increased steadily across regions, particularly in the industry and construction sectors.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Deputy Director of the Population and Labor Statistics Department, said social welfare policies and labor support measures are proving increasingly effective.

“The average monthly income of workers rose from 300 USD in Q2 last year to 330 USD this year, up 10.7%. This upward trend was observed across all socio-economic regions and all three economic sectors: agriculture–forestry–fishery, industry–construction, and services. Notably, the service sector saw the highest growth at 11.7%,” said Mai.

Data also showed a slight increase in the proportion of well-trained workers, now exceeding 29%.
