The southern region of Vietnam, led by Ho Chi Minh City, is driving national economic development and plays a primary role in attracting FDI to the whole country, according to Watanabe Nobuhiro, Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, who spoke at Tuesday’s online ceremony to announce a cooperation program for 2022 organized by the Investment Promotion Center-South Vietnam (IPCS).
Mr. Nobuhiro said Japan is Vietnam’s second largest FDI investor. According to a survey conducted by JETRO last year, about half of Japanese corporations and enterprises operating in Vietnam have plans to expand their activities in Vietnam in the near future. That means they have confidence in Vietnam and its future economic growth potential.
He said he strongly believes that 2023, when both countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, will see stronger economic and trading ties between the two nations.
