(VOVWORLD) - Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae held talks with visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Tokyo on Friday. The two sides reached several important agreements.

During the talks, the two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation in strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology and mineral supply chains. They also agreed to establish mechanisms for dialogue on economic security and cybersecurity policy.

Following the talks, the two leaders signed a joint statement affirming that the two countries will upgrade their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The move is considered significant as the two countries will celebrate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2028.
