The statement comes after Ireland expressed support for South Africa's lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice and accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza—an accusation Israel strongly rejects.
In May, Israel recalled its ambassador to Ireland following Ireland's official recognition, alongside Spain and Norway, of the State of Palestine.
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said Israel's decision is "deeply regrettable." He said Ireland supports peace, human rights, and international law, and reiterated his country’s desire for a two-state solution where Israel and Palestine can coexist peacefully and securely.
Israeli officials said closing the embassy in Ireland does not mean severing diplomatic relations between the two countries. Both sides noted that the Irish embassy in Israel will continue to operate.
