(VOVworld) – The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for a bomb attack in the crowded market area of Sadr city in northeast Baghdad on Wednesday.

The attack killed at least 60 people and injured 200. A refrigerator truck packed with explosives blew up inside the Jamila vegetable market at around 6 am, when many shop owners were trading at the market. The bomb blast destroyed the market, and burnt vehicles. Iraq’s security forces cordoned off the area. In a statement released on social media, the IS called the bombing “a blessed operation”.
