Irish President Michael Daniel Higgins and his wife welcome General Secretary and President To Lam

President Higgins and his wife welcomed the Vietnamese top leader as his motorcade stopped. Irish children waved the national flags of the two countries.

As the Vietnamese leader stepped onto honor podium, a military band played the Vietnamese National Anthem and the Irish National Anthem. The Captain of the Honor Guard welcomed General Secretary and President To Lam for a state visit to Ireland and invited him to review the honor guard. Both leaders introduced officials from both sides.

After the welcoming ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam had a private meeting with the Irish President before they held official talks. Then both leaders planted a tree in the Presidential Palace garden.
