Iraq frees Tal Afar from Islamic State

(VOVWORLD) - The Iraqi government announced on Thursday that its military, after 2 weeks of combat, reclaimed north Tal Afar and the rest of Nineveh province, one of ISIS’s last strongholds in northern Iraq.

Iraq’s Prime Minister’s Office said Nineveh province is now entirely in the hands of its forces.

British Defense Minister Michael Fallon pledged to send hundreds more troops to Iraq to help fight ISIS. Mr. Fallon said Britain will increase its contribution to the fight against Daesh and fulfill its role as a key player in this global coalition.
