Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani was quoted as saying on Sunday that NATO’s deployment of missile systems in Turkey will worsen problems in the regions. Ramin Mehmanparast, an Irani Foreign Ministry spokesman, said last Friday that deploying the Patriot missile system will only deepen crisis in Syria. Mehmanparast condemned all militarization in Syria, and said it would be better for countries to find political solutions for regional problems. Turkey has asked NATO to install defensive missiles near its border with Syria in order to support Turkey’s own air defense systems. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said NATO will consider Turkey’s proposal.
