(VOVWORLD) - A Foreign Ministry spokesperson for Iran said Monday that Iran will only return to Vienna in order to finalize an agreement to revive its landmark 2015 nuclear deal, known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Saeed Khatibzadeh told reporters in Tehran that Iran is still waiting on Washington to make up its mind about certain outstanding issues. Once Washington resolves those questions, Iran will go to Vienna as soon as possible.

He said the United States is responsible for the pause in talks and must make a decision for the deal's revival adding that Tehran will not wait forever.

The outstanding issues include Washington removing its foreign terrorist organization (FTO) designation for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and guaranteeing that no future US president will withdraw from the agreement. The extent to which sanctions against Iran will be rolled back is another unresolved issue.
