(VOVworld) – The 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly opening in Hanoi this Saturday will be a venue for parliamentarians to exercise their role in implementing sustainable development goals, said Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Co-ordinator in Vietnam in an interview with Vietnam News Agency.

Ms Mehta said the most important factor in achieving sustainable development goals is the more active involvement of parliamentarians in strategic policy making. She said parliamentarians need to ensure links between policies, in addition to monitoring and assessing policy implementation.
Ms Mehta said parliaments should play a greater role in boosting partner relations not only between nations, ministries, and local authorities, but also between social organisations in the private sector.
Ms Mehta expressed her belief that through the Inter-Parliamentary Union, parliamentarians will contribute practical opinions and specific initiatives to realize sustainable development goals.
