According to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, at least 18 people were killed and 30 others injured during Sunday clashes between the Myanmar police and protestors. The UN Secretary General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said Mr. Guterres has called the use of lethal weapons unacceptable.
Josep Borell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said the EU will approve sanctions on Myanmar’s military government. EU foreign ministers say they agree with the decision and will also halt development aid for Myanmar.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US is also concerned about the violence.
