(VOVworld) – Several nations and international organisations have expressed their support for Haidar al-Abadi, the Iraqi Prime Minister-elect.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has welcomed Iraqi President Fuad Masum’s appointment of al-Abadi to the post of Iraqi Prime Minister. Rasmussen urged Iraqi leaders to promptly establish a new government.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued an announcement on Tuesday to congratulate al-Abadi on his new assignment, calling on him to quickly form a cabinet. The announcement affirms Tehran’s support for Baghdad in its political process and counter-terrorism efforts.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei conveyed his congratulations to al-Abadi, saying that the new Iraqi Prime Minister had been elected by most Iraqi parliamentary members on the basis of Iraq’s constitution.
Saudi Arabian King Abdullah sent a congratulatory message to al-Abadi and Iraqi President Fuad Masum. Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said al-Abadi’s appointment was “good news”.
