Indonesia was the first Southeast Asian nation to set up diplomatic ties with Vietnam, on December 30, 1955. Since then, the bilateral friendship has been continuously nurtured by generations of leaders and peoples.
In 1959, President Ho Chi Minh visited Indonesia and later that same year, President Sukarno visited Vietnam. These visits of the two leaders became important milestones, laying a solid foundation for the Vietnam-Indonesia friendship.
In 2025, Vietnam and Indonesia will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties and the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day and Indonesia’s Independence Day.
