Rana Flowers on Tuesday talked about the release of official data on childhood immunization by UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO). She said that Vietnam has built a strong vaccination system and the system has stood firm during the COVID-19 pandemic to safely and effectively deliver vaccines to people.
“We look forward to seeing Vietnam return to the strong child and adolescent immunization system it had built before the pandemic –the system that stood up strongly to safely and effectively deliver COVID-19 vaccines to the people”, said Flowers.
WHO and UNICEF on July 15 sound the alarm as new data shows global vaccination coverage continued to decline in 2021, with 25 million infants missing out on lifesaving vaccines. The percentage of children who received three doses of the vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP3) – a marker for immunization coverage within and across countries – fell 5 percentage points between 2019 and 2021 to 81%.
