This will be the first meeting of the two sides since Iran and P5+1, which includes Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany, reached a framework agreement to contain Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for an easing of sanctions on Iran. The IAEA said on Monday that it expected progress this month in its own investigation into Iran’s current and past nuclear activities. Meanwhile, some diplomats worried the IAEA investigation would make little progress as Iran and the world powers approach a final agreement.
In related news, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry talked by phone about international sanctions on Iran in light of the recent progress in negotiations.
