(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s hydrometeorology sector needs more investment over the next 10-20 years to meet disaster prevention and mitigation requirements, said Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh at a hydrometeorology conference on Wednesday in Hanoi.

Thanh said one of the biggest challenges to Vietnam’s hydrometeorology sector is climate change, so a solid development strategy through 2030, with a vision to 2050, must be devised: “The hydrometeorology sector needs a master plan, specifying what resources and partners they need and mechanisms for attracting more investment”.

Conference participants discussed the current situation, development plans for the hydrometeorology sector from 2020 to 2030, and short-term, middle-term and long- term investment strategies.
