| Party leader and President Nguyen Phu Trong speaks at the 17th Hanoi Party Congress on October 12, 2020.
Addressing the 17th Hanoi Party Congress for the 2020-2025 tenure, Mr. Trong said that Hanoi has fulfilled or surpassed all of its set targets, contributing 16% to Vietnam’s GDP, 18.5% to the state budget, and 8.6% to import-export revenue.
The capital city is raising its status as a major economic and international transaction hub, creating important momentum for the development of the Red River Delta and the country as a whole, he said.
“How will the capital develop in the next decades? The municipal Party organization, administration, and people should be aware of their position, role, and responsibility," said Mr. Trong.
"Hanoi holds an important position and enjoys advantages and potential that can be found nowhere else. The municipal party organization must have a vision into the future and take appropriate steps for each stage in line with the national comprehensive development strategy,” he noted.
According to a draft action program, Hanoi’s per capita gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is set to climb to 8,500 USD by 2025 and 36,000 USD by 2045.
The Congress is scheduled to run through Tuesday.
