Four Vietnamese troupes are performing at the event: the Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, the Ho Chi Minh City puppetry art troupe, and the Hai Phong puppetry art troupe.

The festival includes water puppet, shadow puppet, black puppet, hand puppet, and mask puppet troupes. The organizing board says gold and silver prizes will be awarded to the best performances. Individual artists and troupes showing uncommon creativity will receive special awards.  Outstanding troupes will be selected for additional performances in Vinh Phuc and Ninh Binh province.
