Asia accounting for one-third of new cases (62 million), is the hardest-hit region in the world, followed by Europe (51.5 million), North America (42.5 million) and South America (35.5 million).
The US remains the hardest-hit country with more than 35.7 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and nearly 630,000 deaths.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 100,000 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the US on Saturday, the country’s record-high since February.
India ranks the second in the world in terms of new cases (31.6 million new cases and 424,000 deaths) while Brazil ranks the second globally in terms of coronavirus deaths (556,000 deaths and more than 19.9 million confirmed cases)
If the virus continues to spread at this rate, global number of COVID-19 cases could reach 200 million in the next few days.
