(VOVworld) - Germany’s largest political party, the Christian Democratic Union, re-elected Chancellor Angela Merkel as its president at the 27^th CDU Congress in Cologne, Germany. Ms. Merkel was elected head of the conservative CDU party for the eighth time on Tuesday, winning 96.7 percent of the votes.

In her speech to the party congress, which was attended by 2000 delegates, Ms. Merkel hailed the German government’s significant achievements: maintaining stable prices, reducing unemployment, and enhancing Germany’s prestige in the international arena. She called for a digital technology revolution in areas from automobile manufacturing to agricultural development.
