Germany first introduced border checks as a temporary measure last September after thousands of migrants entered Bayern state via Austria. The checks were extended several times but were set to be discontinued after February 13th.
Maiziere said Germany has granted asylum to most of the migrants in Germany but will send back those who do not have valid entry documents. He didn’t mention an exact number of refugees Germany expects to receive in 2016 but said that Germany will reduce it to less than the average of 2,000 refugees per day it received in January of this year.
