Georgia's Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili expressed optimism Tuesday about restoring ties with Russia, which were damaged in 2008 by an armed conflict. At a press conference convened to review his 3 months in power, Ivanisvili said Georgia and Russia can fully restore their relationship and this process can start with resuming trade activities. The Georgian leader said he is ready to take part in direct negotiations with Russia and stressed that “huge results need more time”. Prime Minister Ivanisvili expressed hope that “within 20 years Georgia will be a fully-fledged member of Europe.” He pledged to continue President Mikhail Saakashvili’s effort to join EU and NATO.
