Gender gap narrowed as gender equality law enters 15th year of enforcement

(VOVWORLD) - The gender gap in Vietnam has been narrowed after 15 years of the Gender Equality Law, according to a workshop co-organized by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs and UN Women on Tuesday.

Delegates said that the 2006 Gender Equality Law has helped improve public awareness and promote gender equality in all aspects of life. Women have played a greater role in socio-economic development, the workshop was told. 

“We’ll organize 3 workshops reviewing 15 years of the gender equality law and prepare a report on its impact. There will be further consultations before any revisions to the law,” said Tran Thi Loan, Deputy Director of the Gender Equality Department of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs.   

Delegates proposed some incentive policies targeting vulnerable people, particularly women and children in ethnic minority inhabited regions.
