The G8 Summit on Thursday issued a joint statement which indicated the bloc’s opinions about North Korea and Syria, after a two-day meeting in London. The joint statement warned that the G8 will impose more sanctions if Pyongyang continues to conduct nuclear tests and missile launches and said North Korea’s provocative words would only isolate the country from the international community. The G8 Foreign Ministers expressed concerns about the mounting death toll in Syria, which has risen to 70,000 and millions of people are now refugees. The G-8 urged its members to strengthen aid for Syrians and affirmed its support for UN-Arab League peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi in his efforts to find a political transition process to end Syria’s 3-year conflict.
