G77 ministerial meeting: Vietnam calls for shared efforts to overcome challenges

(VOVWORLD) - A Vietnamese representative has called on the G77 countries to work together to overcome difficulties and challenges in the post-COVID-19 period and recover socio-economy toward sustainable development with the spirit of multilateralism, international solidarity, and cooperation.

Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang was speaking at the Special Ministerial Meeting of the G77 developing countries and China at the UN Headquarters in New York on Friday, which drew 300 delegates from the G77 member countries and United Nations agencies.

Ms. Hang emphasized the driving role of trade and investment in economic growth, sustainable and inclusive development, and realizing the Sustainable Development Goals.

She said it’s necessary to accelerate reform of the World Trade Organization, promote market opening, and minimize unnecessary trade barriers. Science, technology, and innovation play a vital role in sustainable, inclusive, people-centred development.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the head of the Vietnamese delegation had discussions with representatives of Cuba, Azerbaijan, Colombia, and Pakistan.
