German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced on Thursday that next week’s G20 Summit in Hamburg will focus on the Paris Agreement on climate change. Addressing the German parliament, she underscored that the EU is determined to implement the Paris Agreement despite a lack of US cooperation in the matter. Merkel criticized isolation and protectionist policies in solving global issues and stressed Germany’s commitment to free trade and anti- protectionism.
French President Emmanuel Macron said at a meetings of EU leaders in Berlin the same day that the EU will stay firm in its commitment to the Paris agreement. He urged US President Donald Trump to rejoin the pact.
