(VOVworld) – Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said he will not ask for political asylum in any country.

Saakashvili said on TV channel Rustavi-2 that abuse of power charges against him are groundless and he hopes his travel won’t be restricted by an earlier sentence in absentia issued by the Tbilisi municipal court. Saakashvili is currently in New York City and is about to visit a number of other countries. The Tbilisi municipal court last Friday ordered a pre-trial detention of former President Mikhail Saakashvili in absentia on abuse of power charges.
