Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Deputy spokesman Doan Khac Viet made the statement at a press briefing on Thursday in response to a question on the US’s removal of Vietnam from the developing country status under US countervailing duty laws.

Mr. Viet said Vietnam and the US have enjoyed positive trade relations with two-way turnover of nearly 76 billion USD last year. The US is Vietnam’s largest export market and Vietnam is one of the most rapidly growing import markets for US commodities, he noted.

Regarding the Covid-19 outbreak in China, Mr. Viet said Vietnam expresses its empathy with and shares China’s losses due to the deadly virus and praises the Chinese government and people for their efforts in the fight against the epidemic. He emphasized that Vietnam is closely cooperating with China in disease prevention and treatment, while following updates on the situation in affected countries to issue timely citizen support measures.
