Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Craig Chittick said as a strategic partner of Vietnam, Australia appreciates Vietnam’s active contributions to the region and the wider world, and would like to share its experience from being the non-permanent member of the UNSC in 2013 and 2014.

Caitlin Wiesen, UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam said Vietnam can contribute to maintaining world peace and stability, fighting climate change, and connecting the UNSC with the ASEAN.

Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Ibnu Hadi said: “As a non-permanent member of the UNSC together with Indonesia, we believe that we can cooperate together to handle the global political and security issues, which are still very relevant for the betterment of the world. I think the Security Council deals with peace and security issues, but of course, you have to have peace and security to have economic activities, so that is the basic premise. So in that regard, I believe Vietnam can play its active role as the new non-permanent member of the UNSC, based on these track records, Vietnam can make very good contribution to the world.”

Journalist Zhang Jia Xiang from Xinhua News Agency said Vietnam’s second membership in the UNSC proves its higher position in the world. “I’ve been working in Vietnam for many years and witnessed its great achievements in national construction and defense," he said, "Being elected a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the second time means that Vietnam is gaining higher prestige in the world. I believe Vietnam will uphold its influence, achievements and experience to contribute more to regional and global security and peace, foster advanced  cooperation and development, and promote the relationship between China and the ASEAN.”

Vietnam’s tenure in the UNSC coincides with its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020, which will help raise its voice for the ASEAN to the world, experts said.
