(VOVWORLD) - As a new year is approaching, foreign diplomats have expressed their optimism about the fine development of relations with Vietnam and expected breakthroughs in 2024.

US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper said 2023 was a spectacular year for the US-Vietnam bilateral relations when both celebrated 10 years of establishing the Comprehensive Partnership and upgraded it to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development during President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam in September.

Knapper went on this year a quarter of the members of the Biden's administration had visited Vietnam, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Finance Janet Yellen, and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. The Ambassador called this the comprehensive level of cooperation between the two countries.

In 2024, Ambassador Marc Knapper underscored the need for the two countries to achieve the ambitious goals set in the joint statement on elevating the relationship, of which the top priority is to develop Vietnam’s semiconductor ecosystem and promote innovation and creativity cooperation.

The Ambassador affirmed that it is the responsibility for those who are having great expectations on the success of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to accomplish.

“We hope that the cooperation areas we had opened will even open more. And we hope that other areas that we hadn’t explored before will be available for us work on together. But I think it can be a big deal next year  if we seek to actualize. It can be the promise of the upgrade. I think it's the responsibility to the Vietnamese and American people,” said Knapper.

Echoing the belief in the good relationship with Vietnam, the Republic of  Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Youngsam said that after taking office for 3 months, he understood why more than 200,000 Korean people want to live permanently in Vietnam.

Ambassador Choi said that Vietnam and Korea are the leading political, trade, investment and tourism partners and as close to each other as family members.

He noted that although it cannot be quantified, Korea is the country that loves Vietnam the most in the world and this is the foundation for relations between the two countries to continue moving forward in the new year.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski said this year is a particularly exciting and fruitful year for Vietnam-Australia relations when many senior Australian leaders including the Prime Minister, Defense Minister, Foreign Minister, and Trade Minister all visited Vietnam. The two countries boosted cooperation in trade, telecommunications, education, and the fight against climate change, creating a firm foundation for future relations breakthroughs.

Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski said, “The cooperation is across every sector and it's becoming stronger and more effective. So it's been a great year and a great year ahead. 2023 was a very good year for Vietnam and Vietnam's people. I hope that 2024 will be even better and even more successful.”
