Flooding kills at least 106 people in central region

(VOVWORLD) - At least 106 people have died in flooding that ravaged Vietnam’s central region in recent days.

27 people are still missing and many areas have remained inundated. Cash and donations worth more than 1.3 million USD have been given to Quang Tri province.

“We are trying to approach people isolated by floods as soon as possible and have asked the army to establish an air link to support the victims. We have prepared emergency aid including food and daily necessities for affected people,” said Dao Manh Hung, President of the provincial Fatherland Front.  

An additional 2 million USD has been raised through Fatherland Fronts of Hanoi and Thua Thien-Hue province and the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia to help the central region deal with the aftermath of flooding.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung on Tuesday inspected the safety of Ke Go, the largest reservoir in Ha Tinh province. He also visited local people and serach and rescue forces.
