Flooding in Central Vietnam leaves 55 dead, missing

(VOVWORLD) - According to the National Civil Defense Steering Committee, as of the morning of November 7, severe flooding across the central region, peaking between October 26 and November 3, has left 55 people dead or missing and injured 130 others.

More than 160,000 homes have been damaged, or inundated and over 11,000 hectares of crops have been destroyed. Preliminary economic losses are estimated at 128 million USD.

Speaking at the Government’s October cabinet meeting Saturday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed the urgent need to focus on disaster response and recovery. He called for intensified search efforts for missing persons, prompt medical care for the injured, and immediate support for residents repairing damaged homes or finding temporary shelter.
He also directed ministries and localities to restore essential infrastructure, fully assess the extent of damage, and provide affected areas with financial support, agricultural supplies, seedlings, disinfectants, medicines, equipment, and other essential materials
