Under the agreement, Finland will open 15 of its military bases for potential use by US military forces and will allow the US to bring soldiers, equipment, and supplies to Finland. The agreement will also strengthen cooperation between the two countries in crisis situations.
Finland signed the DCA to bolster its security and defense capabilities following its April 2023 accession to NATO.
Kimmo Kiljunen, chairman of Finland’s Foreign Affairs Committee, hailed the treaty as a "historic moment" for his nation. He stressed that the aim of this agreement, like Finland's NATO membership, is to strengthen the security of Finland and its people.
11 other NATO countries, including Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, have signed similar agreements with the US.
