The call came one day after the EU published suggesting for WTO dispute settlement that it has agreed with China India, and several other countries, hoping to overcome US objections that have thrown the WTO into crisis. EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said many countries have backed the suggestions. Washington's willingness to join the talks on WTO reform would be constructive and meaningful, she said, adding that the trade war with Beijing will not have a good outcome.
The WTO is confronting its biggest change in 25 years, after US President Donald Trump blocked the reappointment of the appeals judges of the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body, which may have to stop operating. President Trump also threatened to withdraw the US from the mechanism.
