(VOVWORLD) - EU foreign ministers on Monday agreed on new sanctions against Russia for the accusation of poisoning opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Germany and France accused Russia of responsibility for poisoning Navalny with nerve agent, saying no credible explanation has been provided by Russia.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the sanctions will be carried out by technical bodies of the European Council after the EU examines the evidence provided by France and Germany.

The EU foreign ministers also agreed to impose sanctions on President Alexander Lukashenko for the current crisis in Belarus. The EU’s requirement for Belarus to re-organize elections was rejected.
