A statement released by the European Council said this will pave the way for a vote by EC members at the European parliament. A list of EC members will be submitted to the European parliament in Strasbourg, France, on Wednesday. The new EC will assume office on Sunday.

The British government said Britain will not nominate any representatives for the new EC.
